_____
Adopted*** Shadow ***Adopted

Shadow has gone off to his new home! As you may remember, he was a
starvation case and he and his brother survived, but the sister did not. He
is now strong and healthy thanks to tender loving care from his foster
home. He has a dachshund for a canine pal and a cat to chase
. He has lots of room to run and is adjusting nicely to his new
digs. We are soooo happy for this boy!!

Shadow is a gorgeous, male, purebred, black German Shepherd. He is one year old, housebroken,
obedience trained, great with kids (and dogs), neutered and up to date on
shots. He weighs about 50 lbs and was rescued as a pup from a neglectful
breeder. Shadow has come a long way
from his former starvation state and is now a beautiful, healthy dog. This
is not the type of dog that comes along very often, so if you are
interested, let us know. He will
probably get adopted quickly.

Adopted*** Carl ***Adopted

We had almost given up on finding the right home for Carl. He is a huge Rottweiler and a gentle
giant BUT he has a problem. His
ankle was swollen when he arrived at SCARS and we had it X-rayed which
revealed it was full of shrapnel. He
apparently had been shot. Thus began
a series of injections to rebuild the ankle and K State said the shrapnel
could not be removed. His new dad is cool with it and will keep an eye on
this big guy. When Carl jumps up he
stands about six feet but dad is 6'6" so he won't knock HIM over!!
Carl is a 3-4 yr old neutered,
housebroken, gentle purebred Rottweiler of about 90-100 lbs. Despite his
intimidating size, he is a gentle giant. He came from a family with three
children and has been an outside/indoor dog. For a variety of reasons, they
are unable to keep him. Carl looks just like the dog in the book about the Rottie named Carl!! He really is a sweetheart and
deserving of a wonderful home.

Adopted*** Sammy (now
known as Jazz) ***Adopted

Sammy is now Jazz and living
happily with his family which consists of a mom and two human
brothers. Mom came to visit SCARS
one day with her friend who is a loyal volunteer and met Sammy. She loved him, went home to western
Kansas to talk to her family and drove back for him a week later. All reports are that he is doing great
and although we miss him, we could not be happier that he is safely settled
with his new family.

Sammy is a one and a half year old, male, Bichon Frise
male. He is now neutered, up to date
on shots, and weighs 20 lbs. Sammy
appeared at someone's door on a snowy night and has never been
claimed. He is almost housebroken,
loves kids and other dogs. Sammy
will be groomed soon and is a darling dog!
He has lots of energy but is not hyper and lover to play. Stay tuned for more information!

Adopted*** Sonny
and Charlie ***Adopted

Sonny and Cher did not get adopted together but they are both settling
in well with their new families. We will send pics
of Cher soon! In the meantime, great news for Sonny and Charlie...they have
been adopted together. One of my our most faithful
volunteers showed them to her parents and they decided to take two
dogs...and they chose two adorable little boys! Sonny is now Oreo (the gray
and white shih tzu) and Charlie had kept his
name. They are learning to share their new parents although Oreo wanted mom
all to himself. That didn't go over to well, so he has had to be good and
let Charlie have his turn on her lap. Both share dad so all is well in
their doggie world.
Adopted*** Cher (now known as Daisy) ***Adopted

Daisy has found a wonderful home. Her mom and human sister are home
all day to play. She is starting to come
out of her shell and play now. We have only heard her bark one time and
that was when she was startled from sleep when dad came home. We are all in
love with her and can't wait to take her to our cabin in Minnesota for the
summer.
Sonny and Cher are both one year
old – Sonny a purebred Shih-tzu, and Cher a
purebred Lhasa Apso. They are housebroken and
spayed/ neutered and weigh about 15 lbs each. These two have been together
for the first year of their lives - wouldn't it be great if they could be adopted
together?? However, we know that may
not be possible. They are both quiet, well behaved dogs. Sonny does not like being crated, he
wants to be free roaming, but Cher does not mind a crate. Their owner can
no longer take care of them so they are now waiting for a new home.
Charlie is a 3 year old,
male, purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He is housebroken, weighs 18 lbs, is neutered, up to date on shots and a darling, sweet
dog. His owner is quite ill and can
no longer take care of him. They
tell me he never has an accident and loves other dogs. So far, everyone at SCARS adores
him. Here's the deal...he only has
one eye and three legs but it sure doesn't slow him down one bit! As a friend said "he sure is young
to be so buggered up" but one hardly notices he has anything
wrong. This is really a wonderful
dog.

_____
Adopted*** Fluffball Pups ***Adopted

The tan pup is doing great with
his new family. He is now Simba and has a lab for a brother who he loves. Here his
new parents are meeting him and his sister but they decided on the tan pup
because he looks like the chow they lost to old age. So far all reports are
glowing!!

These three, twelve week old pups weigh around 10 lbs. - two black and
one tan. They have had their first
puppy shots and been wormed and are normal, happy and healthy. They are probably Shepherd,/ Chow/ Teddy Bear mix.
We do not have much information on them except that they were in a
box being given away for free and we did not want them to go to
irresponsible homes who would take them on a whim. We are looking for a permanent commitment as we do with all of
our adoptions.

_____
Adopted*** Dolly ***Adopted
Dolly has made a long trip in her short little life. She was snatched from death's door when
she was to be put down in Salina for being a pit bull mix. SCARS took her in and fell in love with
her. Everyone who came to visit said she was the sweetest, gentlest dog in
the world. How could anyone kill her? Her new owner is a
runner and Dolly has lots of energy.
He has a big yard with a fence and she is primarily an inside dog,
of course, because she has to watch basketball games from the sofa. He tells us she is a champion tennis ball
catcher and returns and releases the ball to the thrower! Well, we saw her leave with a lump in our
throat but know she will have a wonderful life.

Dolly is a female, American Bull
dog mix. She is five months old, up to
date on shots, and weighs 25 lbs and is still gaining weight. Dolly is housebroken, spayed, and an
absolute sweetheart. She is playful and loves people and other
dogs...she is "all puppy."
Dolly had the misfortune to belong to someone who moved to a small
Kansas town still in the dark ages of pit bull legislation. Anyone having a
Rottie or a pit mix of any type has their dog
confiscated and taken to the pound for imminent death. Her owner, being new to town, did not
know this and was traumatized when animal control literally pulled up and
took her dog away, not even allowing her to say goodbye. She contacted SCARS and we took her in.
The vet does not feel she is a pit, but a Staffordshire Terrier mix.
Whatever she is, she is darling and sweet and well worth the effort to save
her.

_____
Adopted*** Remy ***Adopted

Remy's foster mom gave up and decided to adopt him for her own. We do
not understand why he didn't get adopted as he is a beautiful and good dog.
However, months have gone by and Remy has waited patiently meanwhile
getting more and more attached to foster mom. She had a change in venue and
moved to a nearby town and made the decision to just adopt him - so he is
now living in a small western Kansas town and probably wearing a cowboy hat
and boots. We hope he will have a wonderful life.
Remy is a one year old, male,
Golden Retriever mix. He is
neutered, housebroken and up to date on shots. Remy is a small Golden mix and actually
weighs around 40 lbs. His mom's
house burned to the ground and she escaped with her purse and him. She has had to move in with relatives and
there is no place for Remy so he is here with us. He loves playing with other dogs and is
quiet and well behaved in the house.
This dog is going to be a great companion.

_____
Adopted*** Max and
Pepper ***Adopted

Max and Pepper's owners could not keep them due to the fact they had
family commitments that kept them out of town a great deal. So, we began searching for a family
who would take both of them....a tough job.
The perfect family came along who had recently lost their lab of
many years. They had not planned to take two dogs, but when they saw Max
and Pepper, decided to "go for it!" The upshot is both dogs are great and the
new family is thrilled with their new additions.

These two beautiful labs are looking for a new home. They are 4 1/2 yrs old, spayed/neutered,
housebroken, and absolutely fabulous dogs.
Max is the male, yellow Lab, and Pepper is the female, black
lab. They weigh about 60 lbs. Their owners are having
to travel out of town frequently and do not like leaving them alone so much
with a dogsitter.
It would be great if they did not have to be separated but we will
do so if necessary. It would be
easier all around to keep them together because they keep each other
company and play together. They love
kids and other dogs and like to run and play. Aren't they wonderful dogs???
